BIOGRAPHY Andreas Birnbacher, born on September 11, 1981 in Prien am Chiemsee, is a German biathlete.
Birnbacher comes from a military background having joined the Army after he graduated high school. Still a soldier, he decided to use his military expertise to pursue another career -- biathlon, a sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. His biggest successes were the silver medal in the mass start event at the 2007 world championships and the gold medal in the mixed relay at the 2008 world championships.
