BIOGRAPHY Carlos Bocanegra, born May 25, 1979, in Upland, California, is an American soccer player of Mexican descent, who currently plays for Fulham of the English Premiership.
Possessing strength and deceptive speed, he has quietly become a veteran of Fulham and the U.S. national team, for whom he is the Captain. Bocanegra was signed by Fulham in January of 2004. During the 2006/2007 Premier League season, Carlos was Fulham's second leading scorer with five goals, behind fellow American Brian McBride. On September 1st, 2007, Carlos captained Fulham for the first time in a Premier League match, a come from behind 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
With powerful legs and the ability to quickly close down attackers, the U.S. quickly signed him to play for the United States soccer team at the 1999 World Youth Championship and earned his first senior cap for the U.S. on December 9, 2001, against Korea Republic. He became a stalwart for the team in 2003, solidifying his position during the 2003 Gold Cup and leading all defenders with 13 appearances during that year. In 2007, Bocanegra captained the national team for the first time in a 4-1 U.S. victory in a June 2, 2007, friendly against China and reprised the role throughout the 2007 Gold Cup.
During his spare time, Bocanegra likes to play video games, listen to R&B and alternative hiphop, watch “The O.C.” and long walks on the beach. He enjoys eating Mexican food and bagels. View GALLERY:
