BIOGRAPHY Kurt Gidley, born June 7, 1982, in Newcastle, New South Wales, is an Australian professional rugby league footballer and captain of the "Newcastle Knights" of the National Rugby League (NRL).
Gidley can be described as a dedicated, classy young player that has certainly made his impact in the NRL, making his debut for the "Newcastle Knights" in 2001. An impressive, loyal clubman, Gidley was named player of the year in 2008 and captain of the Knights for the 2009 season.
A face of the game, Gidley's representative career began in 2004 where he played test football at the end of the season starring in the australian side against new zealand. He made his origin debut in 2007 and in 2009 selectors recognised the contribution and impact that kurt brought to the knights selecting him to play for the nsw state of origin side and naming him captain for the series. Exhibiting coolness under pressure normally reserved for players with many more years experience, Gidley is tipped to be one of the iconic players of the game with his outstanding performances for the Knights and leadership experience at both club and representative level.
