BIOGRAPHY Miguel Veloso, born May 11, 1986 in Coimbra, is a Portuguese football player, currently with Sporting Clube de Portugal (as of 2008). He plays mainly as a central midfielder, but can also operate as central defender.
Veloso started his career at Sport Lisboa e Benfica, where his father became famous but, at the age of 14 switched to rivals Sporting Clube de Portugal where he played for 5 straight years, eventually training with the first team during the 2004-05 season. His first playing position was central defender. In order to give him game time, Sporting loaned Veloso to Clube Desportivo Olivais e Moscavide for 2005-06. There, he accomplished, as an influential player, promotion to the second division.
Veloso got his big break on August 14, 2007, when he was called-up for the Portuguese full squad for the first time, for a Euro 2008 qualifier against Armenia. He would make his international debut against Azerbaijan, on October 13 the same year. View GALLERY:
