BIOGRAPHY Philipp Degen, born February 15, 1983 in Hölstein, Switzerland, is a Swiss football player, currently playing as a defender for the German Borussia Dortmund team.
Degen's first season at Borussia Dortmund ran with more lows than highs. His tendency to take risks and his very aggressive play in defense right wing position brought his former coach Bert van Marwijk often to criticize him publicly. But most recently, Degen has adapted well to international football and seems to have curbed his earlier tendency for over-enthusiasm. He has also improved his positional play and ability to defend in the air. Degen wears the number 23 with Borussia Dortmund. As a Defense, he scored his 4 goals in 2003-2004 and 1 goal in 2005-2006.
