BIOGRAPHY Sugoi Uriarte, born May 14, 1984 in Vitoria, Alava, Spain, is a Spanish judoka, specializing in the 66 kg category.
Uriarte has been training judoka since he was 18. He won his first medal -- a gold -- at the age 20 at the 2004 European Judo Championships and followed that with another gold in the same year at the Olympic Games in the Half middleweight (81 kg) category. More medals soon followed. In 2007, Uriarte was runner-up at the World Judo Championships held in Bangkok and a bronze medalist at the European Judo Championships Under-23 held in Moscow.
In 2010, Uriarte acheive anothern gold at the 2010 European Championship and finished second in the World 2009. A well-admired athlete in his home country, Uriarte earned the distinction of "Best Athlete of 2009" by the Higher Sports Council of Spanish University. In addition, he was awarded in 2010 the Bronze Medal of "Real Orden del Mérito Deportivo" (Royal Order of Sporting Merit). View GALLERY:
