Brett Hawke

Australia's fastest man, Brett Hawke, continued his reign as Australia's premier sprinter at the 2005 Telstra Trials with convincing victories in both the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.

His freestyle win followed on from a career best performance in the 50m at the 2004 Athens Olympics where he broke the Australian record, swimming 22.07 in a scintillating semi final performance, before clocking 22.18 and finishing 7th in the final.

He had qualified for his second Olympic Games after taking out the 50 metre freestyle at the 2004 Telstra Olympic Team Selection Trials.

Brett won a sizzling final in 22.37 to regain his national title from Ashley Callus by just 0.02 to cement his place on the team.

The oldest member of the 2003 Australian Swimming team, Hawke finished seventh in the 50 metre freestyle at his second World Championships - this time in Barcelona.

An Australian team leader, Hawke also had a consistent year in the pool in 2002 making a great Commonwealth Games debut in Manchester taking silver in his favoured 50m freestyle event after being touched out for the gold by the narrowest of margins - 0.01.

Brett finished 13th in the one lap dash at the 2000 Olympics.
