Rafael Nadal was born on June 3, 1986 in Manacor, Mallorca, Spain. Born in the tennis professional world. Like every players dream, Rafael’s dream is to become the number 1 ranked player in the world.

In 2003, Nadal finished the year ranked No. 47, up from 235th in 2002. He was the second 16-year-old player to break into the top 100 in the ATP entry system, after Michael Chang (june 6, 1988).

In his Wimbledon debut, he reached the third round; at 17, he was the youngest player to do so since 16-year-old Boris Becker in 1984.

In 2004, Nadal was part of the Spanish team that won the Davis Cup.

He won his first ATP singles title at the Idea Prokom Open, in Sopot, Poland. That was his second final this year (Auckland, New Zealand).

He broke his left foot during the quarterfinals of the Estoril Open in Portugal and missed most of the early summer.

With his win over Roger Federer at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami, Florida, he became the first teenager to beat a top-ranked player since an 18-year-old Andy Roddick upset Gustavo Kuerten in August 2001 at Montreal.

He was voted newcomer of the year by the ATP. He finished his first full season on Tour inside the Top 50 with a 14-11 match record.

This year 2005, Rafael Nadal claimed his second career Masters Series at the Telecom Italia Masters Roma, in Rome Italy. His first win came at the Masters Series Monte-Carlo, in Monaco.

He now has six career titles, all on clay. Five of them came this year (Barcelona, Spain; Acapulco, Mexico; Costa do Sauipe, Brazil). His first win came in Mallorca, Spain, in 2002. He also won the 2004 Davis Cup.

He became the youngest player (18 years, 10 months) to break into the Top 10 since Andrei Medvedev on June 7, 1993.

He became the second-youngest Masters Series winner (18 years, 10 months) after Michael Chang (18 years, 5 months) won in Toronto in 1990, and the youngest winner in Monte-Carlo since Mats Wilander in 1983 (18 years, 7 months).

He became the youngest player in the history of the Nasdaq-100 open to reach the final in Miami.

Used to spend time training hours and hours on court, Rafa is better equipped than the other young players. Juan-Carlos Ferrero praised, “He’s very sturdy and he already has the physique to endure all of the efforts.”

Efforts which Rafael is ready to give without any doubts because he knows they are the conditions of his success. He says, “My only objective is to continue to improve myself because I am only 18 and there are lots of things I can improve. If I improve my game, the classification will follow.”
