Curtis Stone

Curtis Stone, born November 1975, in Melbourne, is an Australian chef and television personality, best known as the host of TLC’s hit series "Take Home Chef."

Curtis Stone

Stone was studying for Bachelor of Business before deciding his heart was in food. He began cooking at the Savoy Hotel, in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia, at the age of 18. There, he worked with many European and British chefs who instilled in him the importance of working abroad to build one’s experience and skills.

On completing his qualifications as a chef, Stone set off for Europe to experience life and the cuisines of Italy, France and Spain, before finally arriving in London. When he arrived in London, he started cooking alongside the renowned Marco Pierre White, the author of the cookbook "White Heat", at The Café Royal and Mirabelle. He went on to become head chef at Marco's Quo Vadis, receiving critical acclaim before moving to the exclusive Restaurant 301.

Stone returned briefly to Australia to make the cooking show/travelogue Surfing the Menu (on ABC TV) with another chef, Ben O'Donoghue. A second series of the show ran for longer than the first and was more successful.

No stranger to television, Stone has appeared in a number of cooking programs in the UK, including Dinner in a Box, Good Food Live and Saturday Kitchen. He also hosted the first series of My Restaurant Rules; however, he was replaced by Ian Dickson for the second series.

Then in 2006, Stone got his big break when he hosted "Take Home Chef" on TLC in the United States.

Stone stays true to his cooking philosophy: keep things simple and use naturally produced ingredients that are in season. "If you get your hands on good ingredients and treat them properly, you don’t need to do much," he says. In his cooking, Curtis likes to concentrate on flavors with a modern European edge.
