Elijah Carpenter had what every teen wanted: charm, good looks, and he was a real athlete. He was also an up and coming model/actor. I had the pleasure of knowing Elijah for a very brief time while on a trip to Florida, where we not only discovered Disneyworld together with my business partner and client, but did a short photo shoot. Even though I didn't know Elijah that well, I do know that his heart told him to follow his dream. And his dream was slowly starting to come true. In fact, he's been featured as a finalist on The Most Beautiful Man. He was also excited about an upcoming trip to California to meet agents, see Hollywood, and do a another photo shoot with me. And he was excited to be considered for a band that my business partner and I are starting up. In his bio, he said "I need to thank God for His Love and the talent He has given me. I am also blessed to have a very supportive family." His career was just getting started. He had only a year left of high school. Here was a young man who had it all: active in sports such as football, wrestling, and weightlifting. In fact, he qualified for the 5A Florida State Weightlifting Championship. When I photographed him in Florida, I knew he had that certain "something." Not only was he beautiful outside, but he had a heart of gold. I was excited to show him the photos when he came to California. Obviously that would never happen.

For those of you who don't know me well, I look at life, even in tragedy or sad events, and look for the positive that will come from them. And I do believe this even in Elijah's death. YOu see, I first scouted Elijah last year. Yes, he's a great looking guy, but beyond that I began to take notice of that inner beauty. It was very special because it formed his personality, attitude, and overall character. Having met his family and being in their home, I have to say he wasn't "perfect" by any means, but he was nevertheless far advanced for his young age. Elijah is a Biblical name. The character of the bible was vividly portrayed which attests to his greatness and an indelible impression he made with the people. How true this was of Elijah of today. He does leave that impression. He also had the same Spirit of the Bible character: God-fearing, bold and a dauntless reformer. This most impressed me of Elijah. With all kinds of blessed talent: looks, great physique that many would desire to have, Elijah would tell you to your face if it weren't for God in his life, he would be nothing. Being a Christian, Elijah was not ashamed to share God with others because he knew where his blessing came from. Honor was always given to God. Being a typical teenager, he did have stretching times in areas of obedience and self-discipline. A teenager always tests the boundaries and Elijah was no exception. I gave Elijah a small book called "The Prayer of Jabez" not too long ago. Its a book on how to receive blessings We both began to see the "snowballing" effect as more images of him got out, the more he was asked to be photographed. I was to take Elijah to CA next week to see acting and modeling agents. Elijah was ready to step out.He was expecting to attempt something large enough that failure is guaranteed...unless God steps in. Elijah recognized this. He wasn't seeking greatness he said. He wanted to be dependent on the strong hand of God. Elijah believed each of our surrendered needs , gives God unlimited opportunity. Elijah's maturity revealed this in his long range plans. We are all reminded of Elijah's death, that we are motal. A proverb says: Mortals make elaborate plans, but God has the last word. God made everthing with a place and purpose: Elijah was made for a special plan and purpose. In the days ahead, even through his death, Elijah's purpose will be revealed. My deepest sympathy goes to his mother, his dad, and brothers/sisters and extended family and friends. YOu will be missed bro.

Katie Hall
a close friend of Elijah

My name is Katie Hall. I was a close friend to Elijah Carpenter. We first met one day online, he instant messaged me asking if I thought he could model. Immediately I said yes! After that we began talking regularly and became great friends. I'm also a model,so he was there to relate to my failures and my achievements. We pushed each other forward. He was a big influence in my life. He also wanted to come here to Pensacola to shoot with my photographer. We talked to our parents about it, and being the age that we were it fell through, but we stayed in touch. I saw him growing and growing in everything that he did, and I wasn't going very far. I kept getting dissapointments and he kept pushing me. So I kept trying. The day I found out he passed away, I received a letter from a company. The next week I got my first paying job, and I'm on my way to Chicago for a shoot next week.. He taught me to not give up and to pray for what I want.. I'll miss him so much, but I know he's looking down on me along with the lord. He will always be in my heart, I'll never forget such a wonderful friend.

I am a model and I live in Buffalo, NY. I am writing not because I want you to post my letter but I want to tell you my story. I was surfing the net one day and saw this young man's pic named Elijah. I knew that with his good looks and the kind of personality, he has all the right to be in the world of modeling. I was thrilled when I learned that he is already managed by an agency. I'm sure that he would be getting a lot of job especially if he will work hard and has dedication towards work. In modeling, we should not be intimidated that there are better models than us. But in my case, I fight and think that I can do better than my competitors. Well tonight, when I visited your website, I was shocked when I learned what happened to Elijah. At first, I saw a tribute on him and thought that it was a big joke. I can't believe and had to go back to the page over and over again. I sent an e-mail to him hoping to get an answer that it was all joke but sad to hear the truth. Just like his mother who lost a child, I kept on checking my email hoping that I would get a message in error. A piece of advise for those who will read this letter, you have to take advantage of what we have today coz we'll never know what's in store for us tomorrow. I am at loss that I was not able to talk to this young man. Heaven is the place of so many special people in my life and now, another special person is up there. They say that, if you want to go to heaven, you have to be in perfect form. Not with Elijah I think, because he is more than perfect. To his Mom and step Dad, a word from a stranger maybe can console them. But I know, Elijah is at peace and happy at this time together with his Father. Elijah touches the lives of many people and I for one will try to reach you through my prayers. For those of you who dreams to become a model someday, please do not hesitate to tell anyone what you want because for sure someone is willing to help and will make your dream come true. To Elijah's family, I want to dedicate my modeling career in his memory. And to Elijah, who took his life three weeks before he turned 21, an adopted brother of mine, PEACE BE WITH YOU!!!
