Darin Zanyar

Darin Zanyar, or simply known by his first name Darin, born June 2, 1987, is a pop singer from Sweden. He is of Kurdish heritage, and speaks Central Kurdish (Soranî).

Darin participated in the Swedish Idol 2004, acquiring a fanbase primarily of teenage girls. He lost in the final to competitor Daniel Lindström.

After Swedish Idol, Darin released his first album “The Anthem” in February 2005, with songs by Swedish hit maker Max Martin and Swedish artist Robyn. After his debut album “The Anthem” and the mega hit “Money For Nothing”, Darin really put his name on the map of Sweden, with the album passing gold status in sales and with huge radio support and a sold out tour following up his album success.

With four tours and over 200 concerts during the past 2 years, hardly anyone has escaped his glitzy smile and velvety voice.

The moments that were left free during the last year’s tremendous summer tour together with Lena Philipsson and Magnus Uggla, Darin was diligently used to songwriting that resulted in his second self-titled album “Darin”. An album where Darin mostly contributed in the whole process and where six of the songs were his own.

With the album’s first single “Step Up”, that went straight to first place on the sales charts behind him, as well as the album passing platinum in sales, he also received one of Sweden’s most important music awards, the Rock Bear for “Best male artist” 2005. He was also ranked No 1 as the most exposed artist in media during that year. So 2005 was in many aspects dedicated to Darin.

His 2006 album “Break the news” has been given an astonishing and beautiful production with every track providing the listener with many different sides of a faceted artist. The album hit Gold.

As many states, Darin is doubtlessly one of the biggest rising stars among the Swedish music industry and with his third album soon hitting the stores, a continuation of a long and impressive career.
