Dear Sambag,

Can an OPEN gay guy really find happiness?

I'm very closeted so I have yet to find a meaningful relationship with another gay guy. I wonder, once I come out, will I be happier?

I'm so afraid of coming out due to the unforeseen consequences.

Dear Daniel,

There are no guarantees that if you come out of the closet you will immediately find meaningful relationships. But yes, being out of the closet helps the fact that you and your partner can be in a relationship without having to keep it under wraps.

Also remember that for some people, it takes time to accept, so even if they reject it at first, they will accept down the line.

Personally though, I think there's a happiness that comes from freedom alone, freedom to be yourself, without apology.
