Sambag's Mailbox: Secret Gay Relationship

Dear Sambag,

I have been seeing this guy who is completely in the closet & absolutely no one knows about him. He sees himself as straight and told me upfront this would be nothing but a physical thing, but we slowly fell in love with each other. It's been 4 months now & he has been slowly lowering his guard & accepting his feelings toward another guy, but it completely conflicts with everything in his life. He doesn't see himself as a gay guy & has no plans of ever coming out. He is heavily involved in his church & sees this as a sinful conflict. He is from a small, close minded town & cares very seriously about how others will view him. We love each other so much but it is so secretive & crazy jumpin through hoops & making sure no one sees us or knows about us. I am comfortable with my sexuality yet he has no plans of coming out at all. I hate being on the back burner & only being there when it's convienient for him. What do I do?

Dear Gerald,

It's either you leave him or stick with him. You cannot force him to come out if he is not ready yet.

If he is dead set on staying private, there isn't much you can do. If he thought he's gonna lose you, then he might think twice, but you can't make him do anything. He has to do it on his own. I am sure he is scared and you have to give him his own time, and if you can't handle doing it his way then you my friend will have to decide what you want to do, and whatever decision you make, you can live with.

Be gentle, he's having a tough time. Maybe with time, he will come out. It's not easy coming out and not knowing how those close to you will react. Since you are close, start by showing him moral support, that you will be there no matter what.

On Display Men Model: Jacques

Jacques Mitchell, 26, began modeling at 18 years of age. He attended a model search in Houston where he was first discovered. He put his modeling career on hold, though, until he finished college. “I wanted to do the right thing. I wanted to get my education.” Soon after, he moved to New York in order to further his career.

Aside from modeling, he is also certified personal trainer and actor. His work has appeared in many prominent publications and TV shows including on the soap opera All My Children, in his role as a bartender. “I’m a Jack of all trades. I model, act and bartend for catering events and Ralph Lauren parties. I enjoy helping others and touching people’s lives in any way that I can.”
